April is National Volunteer Month, and there are countless ways to help fight hunger in Central Florida. In addition to volunteering at the main Orlando distribution center or Mercy Kitchen, some individuals lend their time and talent to helping Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida by being on the Event Committee for the annual Ultimate Garden Party. Working to fight hunger and support their neighbors facing hunger, these devoted individuals work tirelessly behind the scenes to nurture the event into a blooming success.
“I am doing my part of fighting hunger and feeding hope to ensure that no one- from children to our elderly- experiences hunger. No one should have to worry about where their next meal is coming from. No one should feel the impacts of hunger,” committee member Rachel Barnes Eisenberg says.
“Supporting Second Harvest is not just about donating resources; it’s about investing in the health, well-being, and future of our community. Their work reaches far beyond the dinner table, offering hope, dignity, and a path forward for those in need,” adds committee member Jordan Vaughn.
Event Committee members help with planning from logistical viewpoints to operational aspects of the event. From the Food and Beverage team serving culinary delights and drinks to crafting an unforgettable guest experience, the Ultimate Garden Party would only be a lively and elegant event with the committee. Other committee members source items and experiences for the Silent and Live Auctions and Full Bloom Drawing – two of the most anticipated moments of the afternoon! Still, other members secure sponsors for the event. Finally, no event is complete without entertainment, and the committee searches far and side for enchanting live music, interactive casino games, and trunk show vendors.
“I’m looking forward to having a great time shopping, dining, and bidding – all for a GREAT cause! The Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida truly creates a fun and innovative event that will make a significant impact for the people in need in our community,” says committee member Janielle Whitehead.
Knowing that all Ultimate Garden Party proceeds support Second Harvest’s mission of fighting hunger, the committee is enthusiastic about committing their time and energy to making the event as great as possible. 100% of the proceeds go back into the Central Florida community to help provide meals for children, seniors, and families. Last year’s event provided a whopping 1.3 million meals, thanks to the hard work and generosity of the planning committee.
“So many people in my community go without food and that is not okay. To think of families being hungry and knowing I can help by either donating money or my time makes me realize that I can help make a difference in other people’s lives,” expresses committee member Andrea Patenaude.
